Staircase

Staircase war created 06/2009. It is quite an easy listening electronic piece. It consists of two almost identical sections, some old fashioned sequencing and retro soundscapes.

Really Retro: new album “Sample and Hold”

Now, here’s something really outdated and retro: a new CD release. The album (wow, when was the last time you talked about an „album“?) is called „Sample and Hold“.

So I am quite happy about this one. It contains my musical efforts of the last two years. Well, to be honest, one of the pieces is a lot older: „Closed Connection“ is from an album I did together with Oliver Rehbinder and Stefan Rehbinder in, wait, 1993. Oh, hum, we begun composing this album (a concept work called „The Ring“) as early as 1980. So, thanks to Oliver and Stefan for your permission to release this remake here!

Sample and Hold is quite an electronic album and it is full of experiments, which made it very exciting for me. Here are the tracks (well known to those who check my new tracks here regularly):

  1. BlueSequence
  2. Blackbird
  3. Singularity
  4. Emotion
  5. Staircase
  6. Berlin
  7. Closed Connection

Andreas Krebs - Sample and Hold

Andreas

Berlin

Here’s my newest work:

http://www.andreaskrebs.de/assets/media/berlin.mp3

This is an 8 minute piece which is an attempt to bring some elements and ideas of 70ies Berlin school music into 21st century. There’s heavy use of analog sequencer lines, many old fashioned sounds, some improvisation. However, the result clearly is no Berlin school music…

The piecs has a quite simple musical structure: A-B-B‘-A‘ (half tempo), with the „B“ parts being quite rhythmical and fun, whereas the surrounding „A“ parts are more elegic and meditative. At the beginning, we have a bass sequencer line (ARP2600 V), with some Absynth atmospheres around. The melody is played with some sweet Mellotron strings, accompanied by a slightly distorted hihat (EZ drummer Nashville).

The B parts use the same bass sequence, enhanced by an additional FM8 bass sequence, some Hammond (B4) chords and heavy drums (EZ Nashville, dfh and Twisted Kit), at the second B part, we have rhythmical brass chrords (Kontakt/vsl library). The solo synth is Massive, put through a nice guitar amp.

Finally, the last A part is played with half tempo, solo „instrument“ is some choir voicing (from Kontakt again), accompanied by high-pitched sequences (Jupiter8V) and CS80V atmospheric drones.

Instruments:
Arturia ARP2600 V, NI Absynth, GForce MTron, Toontrack EZdrummer, NI FM 8, NI Massive, NI Kontakt, Arturia CS80 V, Arturia Jupiter 8, Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase.

Have fun listening!
